Sue devoted eight years as an instructor in the Department of Linguistics and Language Development at San José State University. Prior to that, her high tech career included work as a Systems Consultant at Gateway Computers, Sr. Systems Manager at Cisco Systems, Director HR Systems at 3Com Corporation, Client Services Manager at Learning International, Director Customer Support at Prism Solutions, VP Customer Support at Walker Interactive Systems, Franchise Owner with Norrell Services, and various IT and HR management positions at Intel Corporation.
Sue is an active member of the American Association of University Women. Over the years she has enjoyed performing with the Sweet Adelines. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Latin with a teaching minor in English from UC Berkeley. Sue enjoys piano, dancing, gardening, time with friends, and visiting with her grandchildren.
Chuck is the founder and CEO of OptoElectronix. He has held engineering, manufacturing, marketing, sales and general management positions, including: Intel engineering and marketing management, marketing/sales for LCD startups Ladcor and Supertex, GM/VP of Siemens OptoElectronics Division, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Summit Partners, and CEO of Summit Microelectronics (acquired by Qualcomm).
Chuck’s community service includes roles as Board President of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District Foundation; Board President of Loaves & Fishes, Santa Clara County; Morgan Hill Rotary Club Director of Youth Services; Rotary International Project Leader for the Orkeeswa Secondary school in Tanzania; and Co-Fundraising Chair for the St. John XXIII College Prep School start up. Chuck earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Pre-med at the University of Minnesota. In his spare time Chuck enjoys motorcycle touring and playing harmonica in a bluegrass band.
Robin is an independent journalist and filmmaker. In 2013, she left her marketing career to work as an independent journalist and a developmental editor for emerging book authors. In 2014, Robin began collaborating with filmmakers to produce documentary short films. In 2017, she invited 152 WEST Productions to join her in making SUE’S STORY, which made its film festival debut in April 2018. Robin created The Sue’s Story Project to support the mission of Sue and Chuck Berghoff to make a positive impact on dementia in modern society. Project partners include Poston Lab/Stanford University, Kaiser Permanente, the Brain Support Network, and other organizations. Robin is a member of the Sundance Film Institute and the Society of Professional Journalists. She is also a volunteer and supporter of Community Solutions, and a member of Rotary International and the American Association of University Women.
Dr. Rochelle Woods is Program Director of the Kaiser Permanente-San Jose Psychiatry Residency, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine. It was Dr. Woods who, in 2017, diagnosed Sue Berghoff with Lewy Body Dementia. Dr. Woods graduated from Northwestern University and earned her Master’s degree in Psychology from Pepperdine University. She attended the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago and pursued her combined residency in Neurology and Psychiatry at Brown University. Dr. Woods’ fellowships in Geriatric Psychiatry and Cognitive & Behavioral Neurology at UCLA focused on the dementia spectrum, cognitive disorders, and geriatrics. As an Assistant Professor at UCLA/West LA VAMC, she worked and taught medical students, residents, and fellows in Psychiatry and Medicine. Currently she is Program Director for Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California Residency Programs in Psychiatry (at KP San Jose), and serves as Site Director for the Psychiatry clerkship and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine.
Nick’s 40-plus years of healthcare industry experience includes executive leadership, organizational development, supply chain management, patient experience/customer service, service line economics, and clinical research administration. Currently, he is CEO of Nick Gaich and Associates, CEO of the Healthcare Education Exchange, Senior Advisor to the Med Angel Investment Group at Venture Med, and Board Chair of Bellwether League.
Previously, he served as an Assistant Dean, Stanford Center for Clinical and Translational Research and Education at Stanford University School of Medicine. Prior to that, Nick was with the Consortium Management Group, National Center for Research Resources/National Institutes of Health. His other earlier roles include VP of Customer Service and Materials Management and Service Line Administrator for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Stanford University Medical Center, Co-chair of the Clinical Trials Billing Task Force for AAHC, and Partner and Chief Strategy Officer of Appleseed Healthcare Resources.
His global experience includes serving as subject matter expert on a health system design project for the Ministry of Health in Qatar (a joint effort with Cornell University); and as an education partner of A&I Health Care, a European logistics company.
Nick serves as Board Vice President of the Morgan Hill Community Foundation; and an Advisory Board member for Nimbus-T, FosmoMed, and the Healthcare Asset Network. He graduated cum laude with a BBA, Healthcare Administration from National University in San Diego.
Dr. Kathleen Poston is Associate Professor of Neurology at Stanford University. She completed her Movement Disorders fellowship training at Columbia University and a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Feinstein Institute, joining the Stanford faculty in 2009. She is Co-Director, Stanford Lewy Body Dementia Research Center of Excellence; Clinical Core Leader, Pacific Udall Center at Stanford; and Clinical Core Co-Leader of the Stanford ADRC. Dr. Poston’s research lab (Poston Lab) is focused on understanding cognitive and other non-motor impairments that develop in patients with Lewy body pathology.
Jane joined Kaiser Permanente Medical Center San Jose in 2008. In addition to her role as Manager of the Palliative Care and Transitions Program, Jane is an Improvement Advisor supporting the medical center with projects related to improving efficiencies and quality. Early in her career, Jane worked in Oncology and ICU then found the work that fed her soul as a hospice nurse in Saratoga Springs, NY and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As Jane’s skills and experience grew, she left the bedside and became a consultant for a national Hospice and Home Health company. During her hospice career, Jane also served as Director of Education at a hospital in Houston, TX. In 2008, Jane joined Kaiser Permanente as the Hospice Supervisor, and was promoted to her current role.
Don Larkin joined the City of Morgan Hill as City Attorney in 2016. With over 20 years of municipal law experience, he provides advice to City Council and staff in all areas of municipal service, including land-use/planning, public works, economic development, public contracting, labor and employment practices, police, and recreation services. He also represents the City in writ litigation, prosecutes municipal code violations, and manages government claims and tort litigation. Previously he served as Deputy County Counsel for Santa Clara County (2012-16), Assistant City Attorney for Palo Alto (2005-12), and Deputy City Attorney for Santa Clara (2001-05). Don holds a JD degree from Santa Clara University School of Law and a BA degree in Politics from UC Santa Cruz.
Peggy has devoted 30-plus years of her career to the financial services industry. She is co-founder of Family Wealth Consultants, Inc., a Registered Investment Advisory Firm, where she works as a Wealth Manager and with Legacy Planning Across Generations®. In this role she educates clients about legacy planning, guiding them through issues surrounding wealth (well-being), values, family, caring for aging loved ones, and leaving a lasting legacy.
An active leader and volunteer in South Santa Clara County, Peggy is Co-President of the Morgan Hill Branch of the American Association of University Women, which named her Philanthropist of the Year in 2015. Peggy is also a board member and the current Treasurer of the Morgan Hill Community Foundation, and an alumna of Leadership Morgan Hill (2014).
She is a past president and honoree of the Silicon Valley Planned Giving Council for her efforts on behalf of the Incubator Project, which supports nonprofits in developing planned giving policies and procedures. This led to her involvement with the Santa Clara County Girl Scouts, Silicon Valley Children’s Fund, Hospice of the Valley, and Loaves & Fishes.
Peggy holds a Master of Science degree in Financial Services, and is a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and a Chartered Advisor for Senior Living (CASL).
Jennifer Tate joined the Advisory Group of The Sue’s Story Project in 2018. Currently, she also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Community Solutions, and the Santa Clara County Historical Heritage Commission. Her more than two decades of community leadership include past positions as a member of the Morgan Hill Unified School District Board of Trustees and the Morgan Hill Historical Society Board of Directors, and as a former President of the Centennial Morgan Hill Committee. She has also chaired major events for Leadership Morgan Hill and the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill. Previously, Jennifer owned her own business and prior to that she worked as a fitness consultant. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from UC Davis. Jennifer received the Gavilan College Community Spirit Award in 2005. She was honored by the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce as Woman of the Year in 2006, and by the 27th Assembly District of the State of California as Woman of the Year in 2011.
Pat Vida has 40-plus years of healthcare experience across the Continuum of Care from wellness and prevention to end-of-life care. From 2012 until 2109, she was part of the Kaiser Permanente-Santa Clara leadership team responsible to extend care beyond hospital walls through Home Health, Palliative Care, and Skilled Nursing Facilities. Previously she held Staff Nurse positions within a Medical Surgical Unit, an Emergency Department, and a Cardiac Cath Lab. Pat’s management experience includes hospital nursing units of ED, Critical Care, and Worker’s Compensation. She also served as SVP of Strategic Planning and Business Strategy and as Executive Director of Health and Wellness for Health Quality Partners, a Quality Service Organization. Pat also lead a startup team as subject matter expert for post-follow-up care at Reinforced Care. She excels in strategic planning, creative problem solving, consensus building, and achieving bottom-line results through teams. Pat has a long-standing passion for and commitment to healthcare quality improvement through sustainable business models.
